BEVERLY HILLS, CA – February 11, 2013 – Act III Licensing debuts its roster of iconic clubs, bars and restaurants all unique to the Sunset Strip for licensing in all categories. The famed Whisky A Go-Go, The Rainbow Bar & Grill, and The Laugh Factory are part of this world-famous collection.

The Sunset Strip, or “The Strip,” stretching through the heart of West Hollywood, is more than just a mile-plus stretch of road. It is an iconic locale where fashion, music, architecture and a unique history combine. This is where some of the greatest entertainers – The Doors, Frank Sinatra, Richard Pryor, Robin Williams – have made their mark. And every night of the week locals and tourists alike gather to see a new crop of up-and-coming performers from the hottest bands to comedians testing their material at The Strip’s live entertainment venues.

  • The Whisky A Go-Go – As long as there has been a Los Angeles rock scene, there has been the world-famous Whisky A Go-Go. An anchor on the Sunset Strip since its opening in 1964, the Whisky A Go-Go has played host to rock ‘n’ roll’s most legendary bands, from the Doors, Janis Joplin, and Led Zeppelin to today’s up-and-coming new artists. From rock to punk to heavy metal, the club stood at the forefront of many musical trends.
  • The Rainbow Bar and Grill – In April of 1972, Elmer Valentine, Lou Adler, Mario Maglieri and others opened the Rainbow Bar & Grill on the Sunset Strip with a party for Elton John. At the time, the word “rainbow” signified peace and freedom. It quickly became known as a hangout for celebrities, rock musicians and their groupies. Notable regulars at the Rainbow in this period include John Lennon, Keith Moon, Micky Dolenz, Grace Slick, Ringo Starr, Neil Diamond, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, and many others.
  • The Laugh Factory – Opening its doors in 1979, the Laugh Factory has been recognized as one of the top comedy clubs in the country. Founder Jamie Masada, the driving force behind the Laugh Factory, is revered as a pioneer and innovator on the comedy scene. Comedy’s top stars, as well as today’s brightest emerging talent, shine on its legendary stage, including Richard Pryor, Dane Cook, Dave Chappell, Adam Sandler, Sarah Silverman, George Lopez, and many more. Locations include the Sunset Strip, Long Beach, Chicago and Las Vegas’ Tropicana Hotel.

“The Whisky A Go-Go and the Rainbow Bar & Grill are the cornerstones of the legendary Sunset Strip. With such international appeal, these famous venues evoke the allure of yesteryear and the dreams of generations to come,” commented Julie Dyer, partner of Act III Licensing. “From the Sunset Strip to the Las Vegas Strip, the world-famous Laugh Factory continues to deliver the hottest comedy talent nightly. We are excited to bring these celebrated brands to the marketplace.”
